DURBAN - A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT

    July 19, 2012

Durban is often bypassed on South African golfing itineraries in favour of the well-justified draw of Cape Town and the Garden Route. This is a pity because the Durban area has much to offer those looking for great golf, sophisticated living and authentic cultural experiences. I have recently returned from a second visit, and here’s a snapshot of my time there.

Firstly the big picture. Durban is in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal province, set between miles of Indian Ocean beaches and the rugged peaks of the Drakensberg Park World Heritage site. Within four hours drive from the city you can find yourself in the Big Five game reserves on the Elephant Coast, whale watching on the north coast, visiting King Shaka’s Zulu Kingdom or exploring the history of Boer War ...Read more...

  • CAPE TOWN

    July 09, 2012

Cape Town presents quite a dilemma to Golferholics. Not only does it offer a great choice of quality golf courses, its non-golfing attractions have to be added to your “must-do” list. The problem is deciding how many days you’ll need to pack it all in.

Take a day trip to Cape Point Nature Reserve where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Here you can ride the ...Read more...

  • SOUTH AFRICA'S GARDEN ROUTE

    July 01, 2012

I’ve recently returned from a wonderful trip to South Africa which combined golfing with luxury game-viewing. It was my fourth trip to this wonderful country and I would return there in a heartbeat. It’s heaven for Golferholics, with many world-class courses to be enjoyed, topped off with memorable sightseeing, dining and safari opportunities.

Today I’ll have a look at the Garden Route on South Africa’s southern coastline. For serious addicts, this is the jewel in the crown. It’s hard to pick
“the best of the best” in this region, but I would give the nod to Fancourt. Not only is it home to three championship courses - the resort’s accommodation, additional recreational facilities, restaurants and bars are top-notch. The Links at Fancourt was home to the President’s ...Read more...

PLANNING FOR A GOLFERHOLICS GOLF TRIP

    June 23, 2012

As most Golferholics know, a holiday that includes golf is a match made in heaven. Rest and relaxation is often the priority when escaping from our busy daily life, and a few hours spent on the fairways when you are in holiday mode can prove to be very rewarding for anyone’s game.

Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or in a group it’s easy to make one or more rounds of golf part of your escape. Planning where to go can be a lot of fun – and there are plenty of golf destinations that have lots of options to keep non-golfing partners happy too.

Once you’ve shortlisted where you want to go, there are a few key things to consider:

Weather – there’s nothing more frustrating than encountering ...Read more...
